Two people working together at computer desks

Technological innovations such generative AI, containerisation and virtual currencies have transformed the financial world. At DNB we therefore need experts in the field of IT and data to make sure we can continue to fulfil our mission.

You build IT,
you run IT

DNB's IT specialists are responsible for all IT solutions throughout the organisation: from workspace infrastructure and payments applications to highly complex statistical applications. Agility is the name of the game, and they work under the motto of “you build it, you run it”. In other words, they work in teams to build and administer complete IT systems, bearing full responsibility from concept to finished product. They are also involved in developing applications used by the European System of Central Banks.

Data is our new gold. Will you help us mine it?

DNB used to be known as the custodian of the Kingdom's gold. Today, we can only properly perform our statutory duties, including supervision, if we can collect, access and analyse the right data. Our data specialists use technological innovations and analysis techniques to identify and respond to risks. Will you help us mine this new gold?

It’s for all of us

By combining data-driven insights with innovative IT solutions, DNB continuously works on a future-proof and secure financial sector.

At DNB we use MS Azure and the Azure services as the basis for our information infrastructure. We mainly use Microsoft software (Microsoft 365, Power Platform, Power BI), but also software from Oracle, SAP, Databricks and Informatica. We follow the principle of reuse before buy before build. For specific applications, we can develop in-house software if necessary. For example, we have built a central data science platform and workplace for our Data science community. Like many other public and financial institutions in Europe, we are closely following developments on data storage in the cloud and are ready to tighten policies and implement solutions to mitigate risks if necessary.

Our developers work in Javascript/Typescript for the Angular applications, Python and R for analytics, and C#/.Net and Angular for business applications. As part of our way of working, we have made arrangements for internal code reviews. As our teams are focused on delivering quality, these reviews are very diligent.

Our IT division has nearly 60 agile teams, with product owners, scrum masters, data engineers, business analysts and developers. DevOps is the standard way of working, supported by Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipelines. The teams not only develop the software, but also manage it according to ITSM processes. We use ServiceNow for this purpose, including Incident, Change and Problem management.

At DNB, we collect a wealth of data, provided by other central banks, the ECB and a wide range of financial institutions. We also collect open source data. Depending on the query/information product, data is obtained and processed through queries and ETL. These queries range from simple standard reports and operations to complex operations and data model analysis. The most commonly used query language is SQL, followed by Graph(QL). We increasingly implement AI technologies such as Machine Learning and Natural Language Processing, for example for analysing very detailed data reports or documents.

Our messaging (always via https!) runs between users (browsers) and web servers, either directly or via proxies. At DNB, we are working towards a microservice-oriented architecture, in which we make functionality granular and decoupled and accessible through APIs. This means a lot of http messaging is done via API management between systems. Our landscape also includes other messaging techniques (event hub, enterprise service bus). Meanwhile, we are continuing to work on a complete IT/architecture strategy in which cloud first, event-driven microservices are increasingly important.
