Get to know the financial system from the inside during our Central bank - (macro)economics & monetary economics internship programme.

Work with impact

At DNB your work will have an impact on financial stability and sustainable prosperity, right from the first day of this unique internship. You will bring your generation's perspective to both global issues, such as energy and food inflation, the macroeconomic outlook, the rising interest rates, or international trade tensions, and national issues, such as public finances and the sustainability of government debt. You will not do this alone, but together with a group of central bank interns who start on the same day.

This is what you will be doing as an intern at DNB

As a central bank, we are committed to social relevance and technological innovation. We offer our staff members opportunities for flexibility and personal development. We have two types of internships from which you can choose. In a traditional internship, you will collaborate as a staff member in a project or current topic. In a graduation project internship, you will consider economic issues. Your thesis will make a valuable contribution to our day-to-day activities.

What else will you be doing?

  • You will gain experience in a unique and independent environment, in the heart of today’s financial and economic world.
  • You will get to explore your areas of interest. From analyses of monetary policy to the economic advice, we provide to the government and its departments, European lawmakers and monetary organisations in Frankfurt, Brussels, London and Washington.
  • You will learn skills that will benefit you for the rest of your professional and personal life, from giving persuasive presentations and working with economic models to defining your position in multidisciplinary meetings.
  • You will enrich your CV by working for an organisation of international stature.

Where you will do that

The internship programme includes three profiles: (Macro)economics & monetary economics, Data & tech, and financial stability & financial markets. Together with your fellow interns, you will go through an introduction programme and kick-off, and you will exchange experiences. This way, we will make sure you quickly find your place in our organisation.

Our Amsterdam office is our home base, the place where we meet, share knowledge and work together. You will be in the office at least half of your working week, and we offer you sufficient flexibility to choose other workplaces and times that suit you. Most colleagues choose to be in the office between two and four days a week. It goes without saying that we facilitate remote working by providing you with a laptop.

What you bring

You are excited and ready to make a positive difference in society in your own way with enough challenge to test your true capabilities. Your ideal internship combines learning with real-world accomplishments.

What other characteristics are we looking for?

  • You are a master’s student in Economics or Econometrics or have demonstrated affinity in the subject. You must be registered at an educational institution at the start of the internship.
  • You have excellent communication skills. You can complete the internship either in Dutch or in English. You possess good speaking and writing skills in English. The ideal candidate also has programming skills, for example in Python, Stata, or similar programming languages.
  • You are available from 1 February 2027 for a period of four to six months.

What we offer

An internship in the heart of today’s financial and economic world. You will be working for a solid and socially committed employer which continually anticipates and responds to the changing requirements of the financial environment and continues to innovate. As an institution, we are at the heart of society. We believe diversity and inclusion are important and valuable. Different perspectives, backgrounds and insights enrich our insights. • Monthly remuneration €650 gross, based on a 36-hour working week.
  • If you do not have a student travel card, we will reimburse your public transport commuting expenses.
  • A full-time working week is 36 hours, and working hours are flexible. This means you can choose to work four 9-hour days, for example.
  • Access to in-house courses, workshops and sports facilities.
  • A laptop.
  • Feel free to join JongDNB, the association for and by young DNB staff members. JongDNB organises professional and social activities, such as study trips, lunch seminars and monthly cocktail hours. A great way to build a network at DNB that you will also enjoy later in your professional career!
