Working at DIT and building connections throughout DNB

‘For me, working at DNB isn’t just about the work I do, but also about the people I work with.” I have been working at DNB for over two years as a management assistant in the DIT (Data & IT) domain. In my role, I provide scheduling and process support to management and help to ensure that day-to-day operations run smoothly. The variety and the opportunity to get involved in a wide range of tasks and processes at DIT mean that no two days are the same.

When I first joined DNB, I was introduced to JongDNB – the network for young DNB staff aged 35 and under – at a monthly drinks event. I was immediately struck by the atmosphere and the energy. I am now a board member and serve as committee coordinator, overseeing various committees such as the Summer School Committee, the Outreach Committee and the Social Committee.

A network that brings people together

What I really like about JongDNB is that it brings people together from throughout the organisation. DNB has many departments and specialist areas, which means that you don’t always run into each other in your daily work. But this network makes new connections possible. We organise all kinds of activities: from informative lectures and panel discussions, to sporting, cultural and social events. You get to know coworkers outside your own field and you can build your network.

I find the atmosphere to be open, welcoming and inclusive. Everyone is encouraged to join in, and there is plenty of scope for personal input. This helps us to connect with one another more easily, and new initiatives spring up quickly.

Where content and connection come together

As committee coordinator, I am involved in various network activities and initiatives. For example, I am closely involved in organising the annual Summer School. This year, the focus is on the digital euro, a topic that is relevant both to society and to DNB. During the Summer School, we bring together colleagues from various public organisations, groups like Jong AFM, Jong ACM and the Ministry of Finance’s youth association, to discuss current issues openly and learn from each other’s perspectives.

The network is also focusing more and more on societal issues. The social affairs committee looks at topics that go beyond our day-to-day work, such as social engagement, sustainability and inclusiveness. In doing so, we work with other DNB networks such as DNB Pride and Groen DNB.

Opportunities for development and initiative

JongDNB has really helped me in my personal and professional development. Working together on the various activities and committees has been a fantastic learning experience. In my role on the board, I have also gained a great deal of experience when it comes to organisation, collaboration, taking responsibility and showing initiative. I incorporate that experience into my daily work.

Moreover, the entire DNB organisation is very supportive of the network. It is clear to me that DNB takes the concerns of young staff members seriously. There are plenty of opportunities for new ideas and initiatives. To me, that shows just how important connection is within an organisation. It brings people together, encourages development and ensures that young coworkers feel a sense of belonging at DNB.’
