Get to know the financial system from the inside during our Central bank - (Macro)economics & monetary economics internship programme.

You will have an impact

At DNB your work will have an impact on financial stability and sustainable prosperity, right from the first day of this unique internship. You will bring your generation's perspective to topics such as the flexibilisation of the labour market, the impact of climate change on the economy, and appropriate monetary policy for today's inflation rates. You will not do this alone, but together with a group of central bank interns who start on the same day.

This is what you will be doing as an intern at  DNB

As a central bank, we are committed to social relevance and technological innovation. We offer our staff members opportunities for flexibility and personal development. We have two types of internships from which you can choose. In a traditional internship, you will collaborate as a staff member in a project or current topic. In a graduation project internship, you will consider economic issues. Your thesis will make a valuable contribution to our day-to-day activities.

What else will you be doing?

  • You will gain experience in a unique and independent environment, in the heart of today’s financial and economic world.
  • You will get to explore your areas of interest. From analyses of monetary policy to the economic advice we provide to the government and its departments, European lawmakers and monetary organisations in Frankfurt, Brussels, London and Washington.
  • You will learn skills that will benefit you for the rest of your professional and personal life, from giving persuasive presentations and working with economic models to defining your position in multidisciplinary meetings.
  • You will enrich your CV by working for an organisation of international stature.

This is where you will be working

The internship programme includes three profiles: (Macro)economics & monetary economics, Data & tech, and Financial stability & financial markets. Together with your fellow interns, you'll go through an introduction programme and kick-off, and you'll exchange experiences. This way, we will make sure you quickly find your place in our organisation. Our Amsterdam office is our home base, the place where we meet, share knowledge and work together.  You will be in the office at least half of your working week, and we offer you sufficient flexibility to choose other workplaces and times that suit you. Most colleagues choose to be in the office between two and four days a week. It goes without saying that we facilitate remote working by providing you with a laptop.

Divisions

Economic Policy and Research

The Economic Policy and Research Division (EBO) sets DNB's macroeconomic policy agenda and helps shape it in the national and international debate. EBO ensures that the economic dimension is included in policy discussions, even if they are not primarily in EBO's field.

Financial Stability

The Financial Stability (FS) division is a small division within our organisation. Yet the division deals with big things, namely the stability of the financial system in the Netherlands. We don't do that alone. The division is there to create synergy between the various tasks and areas of expertise within DNB.

Financial Markets

The Financial Markets (FM) division is responsible for managing DNB's financial risks, implementing monetary policy and asset management. The division is the knowledge centre within DNB in the field of financial markets and products and thus acts as the 'ears and eyes of DNB'.

Payments, Cash & Market Infrastructure

Within the Monetary Affairs domain, the Payments, Cash & Market Infrastructure (BC&M) division bears responsibility for three statutory tasks: ensuring an inclusive, robust, safe and efficient payment system, ensuring the proper circulation of money (banknotes) and issuing banknotes.

Statistics

Besides the CBS, DNB is the only official statistics authority in the Netherlands. It is the task of the Statistics Division to collect data and produce statistics that provide insight into developments within the Dutch financial-economic system. In doing so, we lay a thorough, factual basis that users - both inside and outside DNB - can use to make analyses and take decisions.
